The Great Barn Wedding Photography, Aynho - Annie and Rob
Smoke bombs, golf carts, wisteria, tractors, ceilidhs… jesus christ! Should we get started and we can tell you all about this incredible and fantastic day of barn wedding photography?
Annie and Rob are vets from round our neck of the woods but Annie’s family are from far flung places. They decided to book a wedding venue that was equally inconvenient for everyone involved. Although we like seeing new and exciting places, the actual travelling bit isn’t one of our favourite things in the world but we loaded the car with snacks and music and set off for The Great Barn in rural Oxfordshire.
THE GREAT BARN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
It’s no secret we love barn wedding photography and this barn is a particularly beautiful one. Between the stunning ceremony room with the absurd amount of natural light flooding the place, to the patio courtyard with the bonkers wisteria covering the walls, we loved the whole venue.
Rebecca caught up with Annie in the dressing room for the last of her hair and make-up. Annie just had enough time to check out the venue room herself and see the cake delivered before Rob turned up with his family, just in time to start greeting their guests. The morning flew by, and before any of us really knew where we were Annie and Rob were married and walking out of the ceremony as Mr and Mrs.
Oddly enough, even the registrar was from up north and had moved down to Oxfordshire with her family. We had a nice, brief chat about home and knowing you’re almost there when you can see Roseberry Topping.
We shot the confetti and the groups with the stunning wisteria in the background and then let them all relax for a while. We took Annie and Rob away for their portraits and thanks to the venue we got to ride on a big golf cart! As you might expect, we were packing smoke bombs so we first went to a spot that The Great Barn guys were happy for us to set them off. The barn is situated on a working farm so we needed to be careful not to disturb anything.
After that we jumped back on the golf cart and headed off to the little lake that’s also part of the farm. We love lakes, rivers, sea … water in general really, and we couldn’t resist once we knew there was a little lake that we could go and shoot at. The reflections are amazing and the little wooden jetty was so perfect for photos.
After we got back to the barn, we decided to run away for a little bit longer. We had seen a swing on a tree when we first arrived and we could not shake the idea of getting Annie sat swinging on it. We had also spotted an old, classic tractor too and it would be very rude to ignore a tractor when you’re shooting barn wedding photography. We would have liked to get Annie on the tractor but Annie decided not to risk her wedding dress by climbing up there so we sat her gorgeous bouquet onto the seat instead.
Meanwhile, the guests were having a great time and enjoying the sunshine. The weather was phenomenal and the lawn games were seeing a lot of use. Between the two of us, we spent a long, long time watching a game of giant jenga. Like coiled springs, cameras at the ready, prepared to strike… until something else inevitably caught our goldfish attention. Obviously the second we swung the cameras away from the jenga tower there was an almighty crash from that direction. We heard it fall at least 4 or 5 times and we never once caught the bloody tower falling on camera.
The first dance in the barn was an absolute moment. Annie had absolutely no issues spinning her dress and she was killing it. Rob did good too. Their first dance song was Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, a real throwback and definitely had plenty of people singing along - us included of course. Plus it allowed for some cute, low energy moments that really show how much these two gorgeous guys really love each other.
After the first dance there was a slight pause in the party as the ceilidh band ran through a few instructions and basically gave the guests a ceilidh tutorial! We weren’t sure at first but once the band kicked in and the ceilidh caller started giving people the dance moves it all made so much sense. The whole place was bouncing along, dancing and laughing. It was the most people we’ve ever seen dancing at a wedding ever! We always say if you want people dancing at your wedding, then you need to be on the dancefloor dancing yourselves. That’s true but it turns out if you get a ceilidh band and caller it’s even more effective!
We can’t think of a better way to finish off our day of barn wedding photography than having to tear ourselves away from a room full of happy dancing guests. If we didn’t have to drive home then we would quite happily have stayed there all night. We might even have joined in the dancing!
