Bowburn Hall Wedding Photography, Durham - Lais and Joe
At Fucking Last!
We first met Lais and Joe in summer 2019 when they booked us for their April 2020 wedding. Obviously that wasn’t going to happen, turns out there was a global pandemic or something? It didn’t stop us squeezing a few photoshoots in with these guys though, between lockdowns of course. It is always super fun to hang out with them but we were all looking forward to the main event.
BOWBURN HALL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Lais & Joe got married in a beautiful church up in Morpeth. We got married in a church so we love a church wedding. Both their parents live nearby to the church and we were kindly offered a lift from the church car park to the houses where they were getting ready. On the way back, Rob jumped into Joe’s car with his best man and son.
Lais had prepared a surprise for Joe, who had wanted a classic VW bus for the wedding. Lais had told him that he wasn’t going to have one, under any circumstances, but then booked one!
Although we’re not religious, a church ceremony is still one of our favourites. The service is always more focussed on your story and is more personal. There’s a lot less… legal talk and contracts. We always come away from church weddings feeling happy.
We were able to hang around in the church yard for a little while. We got the confetti shots on the path from the main doorway and we grabbed a few group photos before everyone disappeared to Bowburn Hall. It’s always easiest to get groups done right after the wedding ceremony because people have a habit of buggering off if they’re not supervised.
We sent everyone on their way and grabbed a few more shots of just Lais and Joe with the church and, of course, with the VW - Joe loved it.
Bowburn Hall is a stunning wedding venue that pops up out of nowhere. Thank god we had google maps guiding us because we probably wouldn’t have found it. We just about beat Lais and Joe there, which is sort of incredible considering we were in our new(ish) van and they were in a classic VW. Once they had got a drink and caught up with a few guests we headed into the gardens at Bowburn Hall to continue our wedding photography journey
You may know or have guessed from some of our other shoots with these guys, but they love a smoke bomb. Something we have neglected to mention thus far is that Joe works at a paintball/airsoft shop. What that means is easy access to a lot of smoke bombs. And we mean… a proper lot of smoke bombs. So many smoke bombs.
Wedding photography at Bowburn Hall is made so simple by their amazing garden space. It’s also absolutely ideal for letting off about 15 smoke bombs all at once. So that’s exactly what we did. We don’t know if the neighbours complained but sod them, the photos are so worth it!
Amazingly, we still had smoke bombs left so we enlisted the help of a few guests who were unfortunate enough to hang around long enough to be given a job. Their job was to run backwards and forwards behind Lais and Joe holding smoke bombs. Let this be a lesson, if you stand around long enough you will be dragged into our wedding photography somehow!
Lais and Joe were not only kind enough to provide a meal for us but had us on their seating plan. We took our seats and enjoyed an incredible wedding breakfast, thanks guys. After the meal, it was almost time for a dance but we managed to squeeze in another quick shoot in the little woodland at Bowburn Hall. We let Lais and Joe chill for a bit, without a camera in their face, and we met up with them ready for their cake cut and first dance.
We love first dance photos and we especially love the opportunity to get a bit creative with them. We can often be seen running around the dance floor, climbing on chairs and wielding prisms and mobile phones. We know we look like mad loons but the photos we’re chasing are worth a few funny looks. Besides, if it gives people a giggle it’s worth it, right?
